Superb BBC 1965 documentary about Liverpool and it’s Irish and Welsh singing influences. Near the end, it talks about everyone getting kicked out of the city to live in the housing estates such as Cantril Farm, on the outskirts of the city – and it’s heartbreaking. There’s one chap, a docker who moved to Kirkby and he basically says it all.

Interesting piece on housing and regeneration at the time of Liverpool City Council’s fight with the Thatcher government in 1985. Look out for Braddock Heights and the Piggeries in Everton.

Here’s a small clip of May Day celebrations in Bootle. No sound, I’m afraid. Can anyone please give an approximate date. Also, if you recognise the streets and/or people, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Nice views of the city in 1965. Look out for a short clip of the Florence Institute (The Florrie) when it was still open. It’s nice see to her in good nick, compared to the sad state she’s in now.

Nice clip of Everton FC parading the FA Cup around Liverpool in 1966 after beating Sheffield Wednesday in the final. It was an amazing year, Liverpool FC also won the League Championship and England the World Cup. In the Charity Shield match at Goodison before the start of the 66/67 season, LFC’s Roger Hunt and EFC’s Ray Wilson ran around the pitch with the League, FA Cup and World Cup trophies! That would make a cracking pub quiz question :-)

A nice image in itself, but I think the fake vintage treatment adds to it. Although I haven’t gone over the image with a magnifying glass, I felt the lack of any obvious modern landmarks gave it a more realistic feel. What d’ya reckon? :-)

Liverpool Docks. Salisbury Dock. Shot in 2001. Not much has changed since, apart from the adjoining building having the roof covered and a locked metal gate has been added to the tower entrance earlier this year.

Found this on an old hard drive. I was taking some internal shots of the Catherine House refurbishment and went on the roof for a break. Lovely view of the Anglican Cathedral. Catherine House was originally called Home for the Incurables in the late 1800s. Not a great selling point for the new apartments!

I thought it was an awful design at first, but I’m getting to like the building now and it does look nice in the evening.

Finally got this transferred to DVD. It’s also nice to see Phil Silvers and Sammy Davis Jnr in it. The performances are from the Hollywood Palace in 1968 and 1969. I’m a big fan of James Brown, although I think we seen his best by 1976. Check out the audience – oh dear!
